This question was posed by somebody who wanted to learn how to diagnose the reason a sight wouldn’t preform as well in a mobile search, but does really well in desktop.
John Mueller from Google stepped up to answer, pointing out that indexing and rankings are not the same beast, but actually two.
Although Google made the move to mobile-first indexing, mobile and desktop searching won’t be treated equally.
