Over on Reddit, a question was posed to Google, asking how Google would rank various keyword-based domains, and the ranking benefits of using the keywords in the domain name:
“How would Google rank the following domains: web-design.com, web.design, web-design.net?”
Mueller said that there isn’t any SEO bonus for keywords in the domain, giving reasons why you shouldn’t be using keyword-based domains.
In response to the question, Mueller answered:
“No difference. Also no difference if you used sabertoothed-hedgehog.com. “
So, when you’re trying to create a new domain name for your brand, don’t use keywords as part of the domain name. In that case, be creative!
